Julie Cozad - OBC Educator and Doula

Meet the newest addition to the OBC team, Julie Cozad!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Julie Cozad. I'm married, a mother of two, and a grandmother to two, with another on the way in June!

What is your background with pregnancy and birth?

My first real life experience with birth was when I was ten years old. My youngest sister was born and I absolutely loved everything about her. I was totally convinced that my parents had her for me and I had intended to name her. I was the one that wanted to take care of her when she cried, change diapers, the whole nine yards. I was very disappointed when they gently told me that she did, in fact, belong to them and not me. As I was finishing nursing school, my last rotation was in labor and delivery and I really felt at home there. I then worked in labor and delivery as an L&D nurse at Methodist for 20 years. After that, I decided I wanted more. I became a women's health nurse practitioner (WHNP) for 13 years. After all that, I had a chance meeting with Missy, where she explained what she did as a doula, and it really resonated with me. Now after all these years, I get to do exactly what I love: supporting women during their pregnancy and birth, teaching them what they need to know, helping them make informed decisions, and supporting them in the choices they make.

What's one fun fact about you?

One of the things people may be surprised about me is that I get bored with my hair very easily. You may see my hair a color one day and then I'll quickly change it the next. You may see me with long hair and then I'll get it cut short. I love changing things up!
