Jenn Newman - Omaha Birth Connection Birth Doula
Over the next few weeks we will be introducing the people behind Omaha Birth Connection. Today we'll interview one of our birth doulas who has decided to be a part of Omaha Birth Connection, Jenn Newman.
What led you to become a Doula?
I am fascinated by the woman’s body – what it can do, how it’s made, and the beauty of it. My initial interest in fertility led to my interest in birth. Women’s bodies were meant for this – I just want to help women find the power that’s already within them.
Tell us briefly about yourself.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and I still consider myself a student of the human experience; I am intuitive and can often sense the needs of others around me without asking. Additionally, my last few jobs have required a lot of interpersonal work and communication, so I not only enjoy working with others, I am quite skilled at it. People tell me that I’m very caring and thoughtful, an excellent listener, and fun to be around. I can make people laugh and I can make anyone feel like we’ve been friends forever. Most importantly, I married my best friend, Ryan, in May 2015 and he makes my life an adventure every single day.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?
Beauty. Strength. Joy. Selflessness.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?
Unconditional support and personalized care, all with a joyful heart, through the most intimate and vulnerable moment(s) of her life.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
I’m a sucker for Grey’s Anatomy – never go off air! I cry nearly every episode. And I’m not ashamed.
What is your favorite place to vacation?
My husband and I love to explore the east coast in all of its historical glory.
What is your favorite food?
It’s a hard tie between anything Korean (kim chi!), bacon, and ice cream. You can’t make me choose.
